THE CLOUD OF UNKNOWING

The last cloud in Venice

The last screening of Tzu Nyen's art piece at the Singapore Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale took place on the 27th November 2011~ Well although as custodians of the pavilion, we have watched, listened, spoke about, talked about, debated about, related to, promoted, clarified, disallowed anyone who wanted to turn the volume down because it was too loud, we had grown so accustomed and relational to the Cloud of Unknowing over this short span of 6 weeks.

The Cloud of Unknowing had become one of knowing with rooms for more understanding and reflection. Many interested visitors have come to us, trying to seek a clearer level of understanding and realised they have actually did without any of our explanation. Some have had put across their experiences in a deeper transient level which we found it very intriguing to talk about. Many have had commended on the surround experience of the artwork ranging from the imagery, sounds, flow of film, and not to forget the Smoke Effects and nonetheless, the cushion clouds being in place.

It was an emotional moment looking at the final finale segment of the installation with the blank screen with the cloud of unknowing arising!

Here you go!
Buongiorno~

We are delighted to receive the CEO of NAC, Benson on a beautiful fog-less Friday morning! As termed by Benson, The Cloud of Unknowing is a masterpiece representative of Singapore's Contemporary Art with every single frame of the film carefully rendered, edited and thought about.

It was pretty important to also not understand the concerns of artists, audiences, art patrons and art managers, but it is equally important to understand the concerns of arts leaders who served as a leader and an integrator within and out of the arts community. Our sharing with Benson was indeed an insightful one which we will ponder  and reconsider in our future endeavours!

Ciao~

What's the commotion?

Time to go jump in a puddle!

Winter's definitely descending upon us here in Venice but that's no threat to the devote art lover. We are still getting a steady stream of visitors - even on rainy days! The long Ascension Day weekend also saw a record number of visitors, only second to Opening Day early in the year.

As we approach another long weekend on the week starting the 21st, we brace ourselves for more record-setting days. Always great to meet new people from all over the world at our humble pavilion :)

In other news, we also brace ourselves for more 'acqua alta' as we go on our hunt for rain boots. I got lucky at lunch yesterday and found myself this nifty pair of boots at a good bargain (by Venice standards)!

Taking them out for a walk later, possibly in search of a puddle or two!

The weatherman says it's gonna pour but he doesn't scare me!
Not with these rain boots he won't!

When the cloud precipitates~

Yes! The latest and the last batch of custodians for the Singapore Pavilion has arrived! It's almost a week since our start at work and we are absolutely fortunate and proud to be here. Like to share a welcome greeting from Venice on our first week,

Gull takes a swim at S Marco Square
Yeah while things are really wet and getting chilly here, it's also a lovely place. Art on the exteriors, interiors and landscapes created by the island skyline of Venice, captivates many shutterbugs around.

Guess who came today, we had Tzu Nyen's family members coming down to support!
(and a lovely cartoon drawing from a guest)
Our artist's parents and family members turned up at the Singapore Pavilion despite the rain and cold!

More updates to come on other pavilions, food, escapades and images of Venezia

Ciao~
